When people talk about “America” they often mean the United States of America, while in fact the name of the continent carrying the USA is North-America. Together with South-America, this huge landmass could be referred to as the Americas.
In this menu you will find my stories about traveling to/through the Americas, but so far I’ve only been to the USA, about which I wrote the following stories:
- Imagine, a morning walk through Central Park (New York, November 2009)
- Antelope Canyon (near Page, Arizona, USA West Coast 2007)
- A good deed is never lost, nor is a good pizza (San Francisco, USA West Coast 2007)
- Grand Canyon, nature’s beauty beyond words (Grand Canyon, USA West Coast 2007)
Even though the Americas cover about 28% of the total land surface on earth, they only carry about 900 million people (around 14% of the world’s population). Combined, they have 35 countries, 23 in North America and 12 in South America.
North America houses around 525 million people and it covers 16,5% of the world’s landmass, making it the third largest continent after Asia and Africa. In this example, North America includes the Carribean and Central American countries and population. South America has a population of around 372 million people. South America is the fourth largest landmass, but it ranks fifth in terms of population (after Asia, Africa, North-America and Europe).Countries in South America include Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname , Uruguay and Venezuela.
